Although jewellers have a large selection of ready made wedding rings in many styles, and sizes, there is a growing trend for couples to design their own wedding rings. A wedding ring is symbolic and there is a feeling that the ring has more meaning if the couple designs a ring which is unique. While the rings offered by the jeweller are beautiful, a bride doesn’t w! ant to see her ring on another woman’s finger. Ordering a custom wedding ring made from her own design insures that no one else will have the same ring. When a couple designs their wedding rings together, it imbues even more meaning to the rings.
Choosing The Material
Whether you want simple or complex design, you will first have to decide which metal to use for the band of your wedding ring. Most often bands are made from gold, silver or platinum. Rings can be made in other metals including stainless steel and titanium. It’s also possible to use a combination of metals. Tri color gold rings employ white, yellow and rose gold. Some people are allergic to gold and silver and that will factor into your choice of metal. Platinum, steel and titanium are all harder and more durable that gold and silver. If you have an engagement ring you may want to match the engagement band.
Accents
If you have made the choice to design your own wedding rings, you will not want a plain gold band. You can chose the finish on the metal, shiny or brushed, and you can opt to have a design carved into the band. Native American wedding bands often feature tri colored gold with roses and leaves carved into the metal. You can also opt to have accent stones set into the band. Chose the accents stones with the engagement ring in mind. If your engagement ring features a white diamond solitaire you can chose from almost any precious stone. If you have chosen a non traditional stone for your engagement, like a sapphire, you should probably stick with the same stones for your wedding ring. If you chose not to have an engagement ring, you can make a real design statement with your wedding band using a combination of diamonds and your birth stone. You can also use a wider band for your wedding ring.
